Un mot de "courtoisie"    laissé par un "rebel" au propriétaire  "yankee" d'une maison ou il est passé lors de la bataille de Gettysburg...


After the battle, a Gettysburg resident found this note on the back of a valentine:
“July 2nd, 1863. 
Mr. Yankee: Your house is not torn up at all, compared with the way your Soldier did at Fredericksburg. 
I only killed one goose + took one pair stocking. 
Rebel.”


Après la bataille, un résident de Gettysburg a trouvé cette note sur le dos d'une valentine (sorte de napperon en papier):
"2nd Juillet, 1863.
Monsieur  Yankee: Votre maison n’est pas chamboulée, comparée à la façon dont votre soldat a fait à Fredericksburg.
J'ai seulement tué une oie + pris une paire de bas.
Rebelle"

A Gettysburg Valentine

The Valentine, left in a Gettysburg home when the armies approached.



After the battle, a Gettysburg resident found this note on the back of a valentine:

A "Rebel" note written onto its back.

“July 2nd, 1863.  Mr. Yankee: Your house is not torn up at all, compared with the way your Soldier did at Fredericksburg.  I only killed one goose + took one pair stocking.  Rebel.”
